Feather Wars: The Crusade to Save America’s Birds

Author and journalist James McCommons tells the story behind his new book, The Feather Wars: The Great Crusade to Save America's Birds, about the early conservationists who fought back when birds were being killed in huge numbers for fashion, food and trade. The cast includes progressive politicians, society women, nature writers and artists, bird-loving presidents, gunmakers, business titans and game wardens who together saved hundreds of species.

McCommons is a professor emeritus at Northern Michigan University and the author of Waiting on a Train and Camera Hunter. Presented by the Santa Barbara Audubon Society and the Museum. Tickets are $5; reserve online, as only some may be left at the door. Chaucer's Books will sell copies for signing.
