Santa Barbara Surf Film Festival
Surf films, plus the world premiere of Harvest to Heal
The Santa Barbara Surf Film Festival, started in 2019, celebrates surf history and the filmmakers, artists, shapers and surfers behind it, mixing cinema with ocean conservation. The festival supports three local nonprofits: Heal the Ocean, the Surf Happens Foundation and the Surfrider Foundation's Santa Barbara chapter. The evening program starts at 6 pm, with doors at 5.
The same ticket also gets you into the 3:30 pm world premiere of Harvest to Heal, a documentary about Santa Barbara scientists, commercial urchin divers and conservationists working to bring back kelp forests off San Miguel Island by harvesting purple sea urchins from urchin barrens. It's told through underwater footage and the stories of the people doing the work.
